My students are adding to my gray hair count tonight... AP College Board project submission deadline is 11:59 pm tonight, their submission page is already glitching, and two of my "ducklings" are still trying to finish.  Google Voice text messaging to the rescue -- parents and I exchanging nervous messages, waiting for these two super procrastinators to finish.

In retrospect, I can't really be mad at them because I am known to procrastinate myself... It's just more difficult to sit and wait for somebody else, I guess... What is your experience with procrastination?

  1. Oof! Procrastinators can be difficult! Like you said though, we've all been guilty of it from time to time. I find that when I'm confident in my ability to complete a task well, then procrastination is rarely an issue. On the other hand, if I'm dreading it, then I'm much more likely to put it off. Once you get started, its never as bad as it initially seemed though!

  2. That procrastination cycle is my life in a nutshell! Don't you feel that technology has made it much much worse though? In the past, I could be perfectly content just lazing around all day and accomplishing nothing. Now, I just turn on my Instagram and there it is: Someone posting about how he ran 10km, finishing their workouts of the day and other accomplishments. I just need to be able to relax without feeling guilty!!!!

  3. Sorry to hear it's been frustrating. I get it. And you can't really do anything about it, the kids have to do it.

It's been a long long year. Everyone is exhausted and ready to give up. I bet you're looking forward to summer break.

  4. When I find myself procrastinating, it's an indicator that I am experiencing some degree of depression; that's just me. I always feel better when I recognize it and turn it around. When I was younger, I don't remember feeling like I was procrastinating, but this pandemic has certainly fed it lately.

    1. Wow, I can definitely relate to this. When I'm having hard times the procrastination is much worse. I had a crazy stressful day this week that knocked me down for two days!! Gotta keep on keepin on. We will make it! :)

  5. Yikes, guilty. My dad procrastinated terribly and he tried so hard to protect me from it, but alas. Here I am on Sunday night posting comments. However, I had a unique and powerful life experience (maybe I'll blog about it someday) that forced me to accept responsibility. I can think of a million excuses, no problem...per the life cycle you shared, but I have told myself that I am responsible for my actions and decisions. I have to accept the consequences of procrastination and I constantly strive to do better. Even though I'm scrambling to get everything done on a Sunday as we speak. Thanks for your post, I needed it.
